Target Audience
Gastroenterologists, hepatologists, internists, surgeons, residents and other health care profesionals.

Educational Objectives

  • Upon completion of the program the participant should be able to:
  • Demonstrate understanding of recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
  • Describe standard and new treatments for chronic hepatitis B and C and cholestatic liver disease.
  • Understand developments in orthotopic liver transplantation.
  • Develop understanding of the diagnosis and treatment of chronic liver disease as a part of the metabolic syndrome.
  • Understand new approaches for evaluating fibrosis in liver disease.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of important upper and lower gastrointestinal problems.
  • Define current management of inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Discuss current treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and how the physician-patient communication can be enhanced in patients with functional GI disorders.
  • Illustrate an approach to patients with suspected sphincter of Oddi dysfunction and discuss endotherapy and surgical therapy of chronic pancreatitis.
  • Discuss selected cases focused on various important and practical issues including an understanding of indications for video-capsule endoscopy.

Housing and meeting facilities will be at Grand Hotel, Mackinac Island, Michigan. Alternative housing is available on Mackinac Island or in St. Ignace and Mackinaw City, both accessible to Mackinac Island by ferry.

Transportation to Island
Ferry service to Mackinac Island is provided by three ferry boat lines. All three lines operate from Mackinac City and St. Ignace. Please check the schedule for the latest departure times.
