DESCRIPTION:The Elaine L. Jacob Gallery hosts three days of gallery talks i
 n conjunction with the exhibit "Still Pulling: Traditional Printmaking in 
 the Digital Age" by artist Denes Galfi on May 8th and 9th at 3pm, and by G
 alfi and exhibit curator Pamela DeLaura on May 10th at 3pm. These events a
 re free and open to the public. Still Pulling features hand-pulled prints 
 by 20 artists from across the United States and Canada. Each artist is rep
 resented in this exhibition by two to four prints.

The artists selected
  by DeLaura for this exhibition utilize traditional print processes and sh
 are an aesthetic of abstraction that references nature. Their hand-pulled 
 prints affirm traditional printmaking as a thriving contemporary art pract
 ice producing rich and compelling works.

Denes Galfi, adjunct instructo
 r, born in Yugoslavia and of Hungarian nationality, came to the US in 1960
 . He became manager of the College for Creative Studies printmaking facili
 ty in 1970 and became section chair in 1973. In 2003 Galfi left CCS to bec
 ome an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University, undertaking the d
 evelopment of a strong printmaking facility and program for the visual art
 s education for WSU's College of Education.
