DESCRIPTION:Scholars Day is a series of invitation-only events during which
  the Irvin D. Reid Honors College recruits its freshman class from the uni
 versity's most promising first-year applicants. During the event\, student
 s will participate in a group interview\, campus tour\, and various presen
 tations.   Every student who is invited and participates in Scholars Day r
 eceives an award. The minimum award amount for the 2008 Scholars Day was a
  tuition scholarship of $2\,000 a year for four years. Participants are al
 so considered for increased scholarship offers\, up to and including the P
 residential Scholarship as well as privately funded scholarships.

DESCRIPTION:This award recognizes the accomplishments of a faculty member\,
  student\, and community organization.   Faculty memberFaculty members nom
 inated for this award must teach a CommunityEngagement@Wayne recognized se
 rvice-learning course in the calendar year the award is given. The faculty
  member must be committed to expanding service-learning on campus and demo
 nstrate that commitment by advancing community-based learning through scho
 larship related activities. The nominated faculty member must be actively 
 engaged in and possess knowledge about local community issues. The faculty
  member must demonstrate a commitment to community engagement.    StudentS
 tudents nominated for this award must have taken a CommunityEngagement@Way
 ne recognized service-learning class or implement an undergraduate researc
 h project in the community during the calendar year the award is given.  T
 he student must demonstrate a commitment to community engagement and be ac
 tively involved in and knowledgeable about local community issues.  A pape
 r\, essay\, or journal describing the student's experience must be submitt
 ed with the nomination.   Community organization   Community organizations
  nominated for this award must provide a CommunityEngagement@Wayne recogni
 zed service-learning opportunity during the calendar year the award is giv
 en.  The nominated organization must facilitate student learning in a comm
 unity-based context by working with faculty members to create projects tha
 t address the needs of the community following the objectives of the organ

DESCRIPTION:The society - one of the most prestigious groups at WSU - is na
 med for David Mackenzie\, the first dean of what is now the College of Lib
 eral Arts and Sciences. The society was founded in 1981 through a merger o
 f Karyatides\, the former women's honor society founded in 1931\, and the 
 Mackenzie Honor Society\, organized in 1926. Members are chosen for their 
 exceptional contributions to the welfare and development of the university
  and the community.   2010 will be the 84th annual reunion for the David M
 ackenzie Honor Society.
